Lists

Many of you have commented on the quality of my posts and have given me some great feedback. To all my readers, THANK YOU! All of your comments have cheered my days and make me want to write even better posts for all of you. Recently, the number of comments on my posts have about tripled and sometimes quadrupled in just a few weeks. How? Well, I am about to tell you.

Many have also asked how you can write great posts like me. Remember, I am still no expert and I am still learning. However, since learning from the very best I have picked up on a few things that can turn your blog posts into enjoyable and addicting posts that everyone cannot ignore.

Here are 10 tips that every blogger should be aware when writing posts. These tips are very valuable and anyone who is a blogger (or even just a writer)…

1.) Lists Always Win

Have you noticed a commonality among all my posts? They all have numbers in common. I always share 5 great tips or 6 steps to success. Let’s face it. You can’t ignore them! At least I can’t. People always want to know what the top 5 items are.

If you have done a quick Google search like me for something, let’s say “top ways to make money,” you can never ignore clicking on the link that says 5 quick ways to make money. Why?

  • Lists are easy to Read
  • Lists are to the Point
  • People can skim your posts
  • Lists act as a leader on the topic
In addition, writing list posts make writing easier. I don’t have to focus on writing big, boring paragraphs that no one wants to read.
Tip: Remember, people are in a rush! Grab their attention by providing a short list.
2.) Photos and Video Keep Posts Exciting
I wish I could include fun photos in my college papers. College papers are so boring!
People love photos. As the quote says, “A picture is worth 1000 words.” Photos make your posts stand out and make people want to read them.
On the other hand, videos offer a different perspective on your posts. Plus, for me just clicking on a video is just fun to see what the video is about. People are always curious to view videos.
When I was starting out I thought I was including enough photos until I received a comment that I should even include more photos. More photos the better, but do not overcrowd your post with a million photos. Find a good medium that will allow your readers to remain interested in your posts.
Tip: Use a great eye-catching photo for your featured image. People will click on your post more often if the photo is more exciting to look at. When you are searching for a photo, if one catches your eye first, it is a good indication that is a good photo to use.
(Would you rather read posts that have just text or text and exciting photos?)
3.) Short Paragraphs Win the Race
This is something I have learned on my own. When writing my posts, I do not write long, bulky paragraphs. I’ve visited websites that have huge paragraphs and I don’t want to read them. The post just looks too boring to read and I don’t want to read them! Keep the paragraphs short and simple. This makes reading your posts much easier and make you want to keep reading.
No reader wants to be faced with a long boring challenge to read a post. People want the main points! After all, people are only going to remember the main points. Make the post easy for your readers to read. Make short and to the point paragraphs.
Tip: Combining short paragraphs with your lists adds to your post’s value.
4.) Link to Success
The web is not called the web for nothing. Link to other sources to provide your readers with other great information. When providing readers with information, give them information on how you achieved great success. Readers are more likely to come back.
These are some of the blogs that I have learned from to improve my blog posts.
These are 3 of the leaders in the blogging world. Learn from them because I learn from them as well.
Tip: When linking, click the checkbox that says ‘open another tab.’ You do not want your readers to leave your site.

5.) Ask Questions

Something that I have learned from other blog writers is to ask a question to your readers. When you ask a question, more people are likely to respond. Questions command people to take an action and keep your readers more interested.

If you have noticed at the end of some of my posts, I have asked questions for my readers. The response has been pretty great.

Tip: Test on a few posts to see if questions add value for you. Then compare your posts with posts that do not have questions.

6.) Edit. And When You are Done, Edit Some More

This is so critical. Make sure you go back and read over your posts at least a couple more times. Each time I do I always find another mistake.

I am still not perfect and there are still a few mistakes that get by, however just taking an extra few minutes saves me the added drama.

Tip: Read your posts out loud and have someone else read your posts.

7.) Save Your Drafts

Although this is something that can’t bring in more readers, it will certainly save you more time. I have plenty of experiences writing a post for a good hour, forgot to save my work, something bad just happened,  and had to start all over again. Can you say “Worst Feeling Ever!”

Tip: Just take the 5 seconds to hit the ‘Save Draft’ button.

8.) Bold, Italics, and Underline

This is very important to make your post stand out more. These 3 features make your blog posts much more enjoyable.

I have used these and have gotten a few comments saying that your italics and bolding makes reading your posts more enjoyable.

Tip: Use this sparingly. Put emphasis on words that you want to help get your points across.

9.) Examples Allow for Better Understanding

Use personal examples and examples from others to get your message across. People learn best from learning how other people have done it before. Learn from others so that you don’t have to make the same mistakes and can move forward faster.

From my personal experience, I learn best learning how other people have done it. Knowing exactly how they did it allows me to use their example and gives me the ability to offer my own twist.

Tip: Use your examples first before using other examples. Your examples will have more meaning and will put more credibility in your work.

10.) It’s All in the TITLE

This is the key to turning lost souls into blog readers. Your title is the front line and the very first thing people are going to read. They are not going to see the post, they are going to read the title first!!

When writing good titles, it is very important to include a few things.

  • How Big is the List (Top 10)
  • What (Blog Post Enhancements)
  • Benefit (Guarantee INSTANT Readers)
  • For who? (Your Blog)
Which is more catchier?

Blog Tips That Are Good To Keep In Mind
People want to add value to their life. You need to provide the value for them. If they read your title and think that it will not add value to their life, they are not going to read the post.
Tip: If you cannot think of a catchy title, write the post first, then come back to the title later.

Hope these help you and maybe inspire you to write blog posts or even start your own blog!
